Rogers City

The Thunder Floor Cloggers based at The Old Time American Clogging and Southern Appalachian Square Dance School in Lake Odessa, MI took their Folk Heritage Program up to Rogers City, MI District Library over the Weekend of Oct 7th and 8th.. Friday was a busy day with showing clogging steps and teaching Appalachian figures with a history dating back 1500 years to students of five elementary schools. What was nice was to see most of the boys so willing to take part. The students were all very well mannered.

Friday night the group clogged a few numbers and Bob the clogger taught and called a two and a half hour square dance in the St. Michaels Luthren Church in Belknap, MI. Children from 6 years old to 90 years old had a great time together. Snacks were served and the remark was heard, "I haven't had this much fun in years," as the floor rumbled the sound of the feet of the dancers.

Saturday morning the cloggers practiced at the Rogers City theater at 10 am with any child who showed up from the Folk Heritage Program Friday for their part in the show Saturday night at the theater.

At 5:30pm people were waiting outside for the show to start at 7:30pm. The seats in the theater were almost all filled that night. The audience and the dancers were all blessed with a fun time. Annika, the 15 year old in the group, was swamped by children afterward as were also the rest of the group by children and adults alike exclaiming how much they all enjoyed the show. She did two freestyles in the show, the first one being about 6 minutes long and she brought the house down, as did the Appalachian square dance that opened up the second half. Partial proceeds went to the Presque Isle District Library.

Yeah-but, the ice cream parlor next door was closed for the season.
So we went down to the beach and watched the freighters load limestone from the biggest limestone quarry in the world :)
